After admission, an eligible F-1 student is entered into SEVIS and receives Form I-20 from the school. The Form I-20 is required for the student visa process.

There is no single government-set living-expense amount that applies to every F-1 student. Financial requirements depend on the school’s estimated tuition, living costs, insurance and other expenses shown in the student’s financial documentation and Form I-20.
